Virginia Beach's hottest new community tradition — bold flavor, fierce competition, and a whole lot of heart.
The Chic's Beach Chili Classic is a free community event where local restaurants and home cooks go head-to-head for bragging rights, trophies, and the title of Virginia Beach's best chili. The public attends free of charge and casts votes for their Crowd Favorite. Official judging is handled by members of the Virginia Beach Fire and Police Departments.
Thrive Realty hosts and sponsors the event as a community giveback — reinforcing the brokerage's roots in the 757 and its commitment to the neighborhoods it serves. Pandas Fight Against Cancer will be on site throughout the event, accepting tax-deductible donations from attendees.
Two trophies will be awarded — Best Overall Chili decided by the official judges (VBFD/VBPD), and Crowd Favorite decided entirely by the public.
Awarded by official judges to the highest-scoring chili across all scoring criteria. Open to both restaurants and home cooks.
Voted on by the public using voting tickets dropped in competitor jars. This is the people's champion — no judges involved.
Each judge scores every competing chili on five criteria using the scale below. Scorecards are collected and tallied by Thrive Realty volunteers — judges do not see each other's scores until after submission.
Rating scale per category: 1 = Poor | 2 = Fair | 3 = Good | 4 = Very Good | 5 = Exceptional

If using multiple judges (e.g. one firefighter + one officer), scores are averaged to produce a final score per competitor. Ties are broken by the Taste category score.
